Frequently asked questions
The key answers about AssetNode.
Getting started
AssetNode is a modern platform for IT asset management and IT inventory management. Companies use it to manage hardware and software licences, automate on- and offboarding, and keep an audit trail in one central interface.
Create a cloud workspace without a credit card. Explore the removable sample inventory first. Then import an XLSX file or connect MDM, your HR directory, SCIM and SSO through the setup assistant.
Yes. The hosted Free plan includes unlimited assets and 5 users — free IT inventory management with no credit card. Every new workspace has all features for 30 days. Under the Sustainable Use License you can also self-host AssetNode free of charge for your own organisation, with no limit on the number of users.
No — AssetNode is fair-code. The source code is public, and you may self-host and modify it free of charge for your own organisation. This is deliberately not an OSI-approved open source licence: the Sustainable Use License prohibits reselling AssetNode as a competing product. If you need an OSI licence, Snipe-IT (AGPL) and GLPI (GPL) are the established options.
Yes. AssetNode supports XLSX import for hardware, peripherals, employees, licences, consumables, components, locations, manufacturers and suppliers. A REST API is available for programmatic imports.
Features
You can manage laptops, desktop PCs, tablets, smartphones, monitors, servers, network devices, printers and peripherals. Software licences, consumables and your own asset categories are covered too.
Yes. You can create offices, warehouses and external sites and assign assets to them. Inventory can be filtered and reported on by location at any time.
Assignment records link assets to employees and hold expected return dates and notes. When someone leaves, you start a return flow that updates the asset status automatically.
Yes. AssetNode calculates depreciation automatically from purchase date, price and configurable depreciation schedules — straight-line or declining balance.
Integrations
AssetNode can sync devices from Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, Jamf Pro, Jamf School, Kandji and Mosyle. Active integrations run on a schedule and can trigger workflow events.
Yes. The SCIM 2.0 endpoint supports user provisioning from identity providers such as Okta, Azure AD and OneLogin.
Yes. AssetNode offers a REST API with API key authentication. Hardware, employees, assignments and licences are accessible programmatically.
Security & data
Our primary cloud application and database infrastructure runs at Hetzner in Germany. For CDN and DDoS protection we use Cloudflare under appropriate EU data transfer safeguards. When self-hosting, you determine the infrastructure and the data location.
AssetNode supports privacy-conscious processes with personal data export, verified account deletion, employee data erasure, consent records, role-based access and an audit trail. Compliance still depends on how your organisation configures and uses the service. Where processing involves infrastructure outside the EU, such as our CDN, we rely on appropriate safeguards including standard contractual clauses.
Yes. Asset changes and administrative changes are recorded with a timestamp, the acting person and — where available — before-and-after detail. Administrators and managers can search their organisation’s audit trail.
